Fendi is an Italian fashion house best known for its "baguette" handbags. It started in 1918 as a fur and leather shop in Rome, but today is a multinational luxury goods company. Karl Lagerfeld is the creative director. Fendi began in 1918 when Adele Casagrande opened a shop in Rome, and when she married Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they changed the name to Fendi. In the 40s and 50s, the couple's five daughters went to work for the firm, eventually learning how to run the company themselves.

In 1962, German designer Karl Lagerfeld created the inverted FF logo. It has been used on a variety of Fendi products, incluiding handbags, wallets, luggage, shoes, and apparel. Marvin Traub, president of Bloomingdale's, discovered Fendi's leather goods and introduced them to the United States. Today Fendi is represented in high-end department stores. After buyouts by Prada and LVMH, the network of boutiques has expanded to 117. On October 19, 2008, the world marveled at Fendi's fashion show on the Great Wall of China, which showcased Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini's latest fashions and specially designed outfits.
Today, Fendi produces clothing, shoes, handbags, belts, sunglasses, and many other accessory items. Fendi purses are beautiful and desired by women all over the world. Those who desire a Fendi bag must face a three year waiting list and be prepared to pay a great deal. While very expensive, the handbags are sophisticated and refined.
